still more

One picture is in twice, but I don't know how to edit. The two pieces of painting that are duplicates are for a cousin to chose which one she might like.

more

The larger turquoise piece is a pillow cover that I showed in an earlier posting. Carol has added more color and contrast to it.
Other pieces are done with paintsticks and with fabric painting.

More fabric painting

We came up with quite a variety of looks. Silks, cotton, and rayons all take paint very differently.

Carol made the one with the vibrant colors as a shakra colors wall hanging to use when meditation.

Fabric painting om cotton/poly

Here's one I tried on a mix fabric that I had with me. I tied it in knots, rubber banded it, and twist tied it, then painted it after wrapping it around a 2 liter bottle. I just washed it and hung it out to dry.

Carol on Hoot and start of using Paintstix

(First of all, I have to say that I wish the pictures would come up in the order in which I stick them in there, and that I could find a way to fix typos after I've posted!!)

Carol using Hoot with one of my new pantos before we left for Oro Valley. Sandy and Carol painting on a silk scarf. Wall hanging to which Carol has added some contrast. A pillow cover to which Carol added more contrast and five blocks I did with rubbing templates which will go into my blue and yellow quilt. Sandy applying paint over torn masking tape.

Paintstix and silk scarves

We were using a stencil of Carol's and found the openings were mostly too narrow to get thru with the paintstick, but we could finger rub the paint into place. Sandy tore ragged narrow pieces of tape and use the paint stick over them - picture is after tape removed. More paint will be added to this piece. Paint on wet and dry silk, and watching the colors run together. Carol adding paint.

Moer painting silk

Starting from the bottom, pictures of me adding paint, Sandy showing us how to do squares with a foam brush, salt applied to the ends of the scarf - one end was wet when starting and the other dry. Sandy and Carol taking a break at Sandy's bead station.

Oops - forgot to add the pictures!

Embroidery, silk scarves and a loom

I did some machine embroidery on the corners of a couple linen pieces. There are shots of Carol's and my scarves, and a close up of mine with the salt on it. Also picture of Sandy at one of her looms.

Sandy's lithurgical stoll

Here's the piece Sandy was working on in the previous picture, and a close up.

Still more of Carol's work

More of Carol's stuff

Cousin Carol's visit

My cousin Carol and her hubby Denis, (yes only one N) arrived on Monday and Carol and I have been having fun doing show and tell, and she's done some quilting on Hoot with one of thr new pantos I picked up at the quilt show at ASU West. Carol does batik, but doesn't use a stamp - she paints the hot wax on. Some of her stuff has become faded and she's planning to do some re-dying (that's her other thing), and may attempt some applique on some of her stuff.
